Arada Canyon

Trek 15

Arada Canyon, also known as the Double Canyon, is located below the Guna Plateau, little in from the road-side settlement of Wadi Arada. It is indeed two canyons, connected in the middle by a path over a small rocky plateau. If you have time and are up for it a steep climb to the edge of the Guna range can take you to a look-out point, known as Nosrat el Guna, with great views on the desert and the High Mountains in the distance. Count at least half a day extra if you plan to climb, but the best is to do it overnight and descend another way.

Other names/spellings: Double Canyon – Kanion Arada

  • Arada Canyon: located just off the main route connecting Wadi Arada and Naqb Arada, right at the foot of the Guna Plateau in a large water-catchment area.
  • Wadi Arada: the best known of the wadis of the same name, Wadi Arada connects the road-side settlement of Wadi Arada to Arada Canyon and the Guna Plateau.
  • Naqb Arada: one of the steep paths that go up to the flat top of the Guna Plateau from the large water-catchment area.
  • Farsh Abaya: a system of shallow basins on the top of the Guna Plateau, offering great views from its rim.
  • Farsh Abu Trefiya: a system of shallow basins on the top of the Guna Plateau, offering great views from its rim. At one of the best look-out points you find a stone structure locals call Nosrat el Guna.
